Fort Collins CO - Happy AND Smart

Well, we didn't make the podium in either of these rankings, but we did bag the equivalent of Miss Congeniality, and that's plenty to crow about.

Bloomberg just released a study showing the top destinations for really smart people. The Bloomberg Brain Concentration Index tracks business formation and education and employment in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics, and Fort Collins ranked 4th nationally, behind Boulder at #1 and ahead of Denver in #10. Among the factors contributing to this excellent showing was a very strong #2 ranking in net business formation, just behind Denver at #1 in this category.

And we're happy, too! National Geographic and Gallup teamed up to design an index that measures where Americans are "living their best lives" and once again, Fort Collins ranked 4th nationally, and once again, behind Boulder in 1st. This study was based on over 250,000 interviews with adults living in 190 metropolitan areas, and measured civic engagement, financial security, educational opportunities and other location specific qualities.

We've pretty much known about both of these for a long time. You can sense the happiness surrounding you every time you're out and about, and we've always been known for the high levels of education among our residents. But these two rankings aren't even close to the sum total of the community's achievements - Here's a partial list of awards and rankings Fort Collins has achieved in recent years:

Congratulations - smart and happy is a good combination. Sort of sounds like Garrison Keillor and Lake Wobegon crowing - "where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."

Holy Smokes Dick that is awesome!  What a long LONG list of good things about Fort Collins.  I think we'll all be moving there shortly!!  Personally I've always loved being in Fort Collins since the 80's!  I had to go there quite often when I worked for Eagle County and CSU. Loved it!

I visited Fort Collins in the mid 1980s.  I was impressed with its small town college feel.  I can understand why folks would want to live there.
