Forbes Magazine just came out with their 16th annual Best Places for Business and Careers list, rating the 200 largest metro areas in the US on such factors as employment, cost of living, cost of doing business, income growth, quality of life, and labor force education.
Fort Collins ranked 5th nationally, behind Raleigh, NC; Des Moines, IA; Provo, UT; and Denver. Positive factors that contributed to this strong showing included the presence of major high-tech companies, the research resources of Colorado State University, and the educated labor force - Fort Collins has the highest number of high school graduates in the country, at 95% of the adult population, and was 9th best for college graduates, at 45% of the adult population.
None of this is terribly surprising to those of us lucky enough to live here. The list of community ranking awards that Fort Collins has won in the recent past includes Best Place to Live, Best Place to Retire, Best Place to Raise a Family, and Best Place to Start a Business. And the list of top ten rankings are as long as your arm.
