Fort Collins Brewery is one of the major local craft brewing success stories. Started by Tom & Jan Peters in 2003, the brewery first occupied space in east Fort Collins, and in 2010, moved to its much larger and sleeker, newly-constructed home closer to Old Town Fort Collins. Last year, Fort Collins Brewery produced in excess of 12,000 barrels of excellent beer in a variety of styles - this year, their production target is to exceed 15,000 barrels.
Their standard beers include:
- 1900 Amber
- Pomegranate Wheat
- Kidd Lager
- Z Lager
- Red Banshee
- Chocolate Stout (my favorite)
along with current seasonals Imperial India Belgian Ale and Double Chocolate Stout (which I like twice as much).
Fort Collins Brewery operates a tasting room, open from 11-6 Monday-Thursday and 11-7 on Friday and Saturday. While you are there, you can get your growler refilled by the state's only automated growler filling machine, a device imported from Austria which extends the shelf life of the beer by as much as 3 weeks. In addition to tasting these beers at the brewery, you can find them on the menus of many local and statewide bars and restaurants, and the are also currently distributed to 17 other states.
In a unique twist, Fort Collins Brewery has also opened a great full-service restaurant inside the brewery - Gravity 1020 - which features excellent food to accompany their brews - please take a look at my previous enthusiastic rave blog post about the restaurant Gravity tentwenty - Great Food in a Working Brewery.
Fort Collins Brewery and Gravity 1020 are located at 1020 E. Lincoln Ave Fort Collins, CO 80524. This one definitely deserves a stop when you're doing the local brewery tour, and is a fine destination choice for good eats as well.
